QUESTION: Can I install GeoLocator
over a prior version?
The latest GeoLocator/OnLine update can be applied
without regard to the GeoLocator/OnLine version currently installed.
This is not true for GeoLocator/Desktop
versions.How do I know
what version I have?
Do not attempt to install any update over
the GeoLocator/Desktop CD-ROM
based versions 6 thru 9. Instead, please follow the procedure below to rename your old GeoLocator folder
(normally C:\WINMAPS) to another name. If you have installed GeoLocator
on a network server, then rename the WINMAPS folder on the server instead.
- Double-click on My Computer.
- Double-click on the C: drive.
- Right-click on the WINMAPS folder and select Rename.
- Change the folder name to WINMAPSx
(where "x" is your OLD version number).
- Press Enter to save the name. Say "Yes" to
any warning messages about renaming folders.
The WINMAPSx
folder can be deleted after you have successfully installed
and tested your update.

QUESTION: How do I install my additional
county maps?
To install the additional county maps you have ordered,
make sure GeoLocator is not running, then:
- Reinsert your GeoLocator CD-ROM, wait for the installation program
to start, and follow the on-screen instructions.
- Continue following instructions until you are given a choice
of what Setup Type to use. Select Add Map Subscription.
- You will be shown a list of counties already installed and,
after continuing to the next screen, a list of all the counties that are
on the CD-ROM. Select each county you wish to install (one at a
time) then click Install.
- Continue until all your counties are installed then
continue
on to complete the installation.
QUESTION: How do I install GeoLocator on more than
one computer?
The Single User version
of GeoLocator is provided
with a second install for use by the registered user only on a backup
machine and as long as only one copy is in use at a time.
If the second machine is to be used by another
person, or you wish to install GeoLocator on more than two machines,
please contact your vendor to purchase Additional Agent Licenses at a

GeoLocator Office Packs provide a license for 5
installs onto either 5 stand-alone computers OR onto a network server.
A server installation provides concurrent access by up to 5 local
workstations at any one time.
Additional Agent License Installation
After purchasing an Additional Agent License,
install GeoLocator on the additional computer, then follow the
instructions below for Registering GeoLocator.
GeoLocator Office Pack Installation
If you wish to install GeoLocator on a network
server, please contact Map Solutions customer support.
If you need 3 to 5 additional licenses, purchase a
GeoLocator Office Pack from your software vendor then:
- Follow the instructions for Registering GeoLocator on a machine with an
EXISTING
license.
- The activation codes you receive will add 5
more installs to your GeoLocator license.
- Afterward, you may install GeoLocator on your
additional machines.
QUESTION: How do I
install GeoLocator without a floppy drive?
If your computer does not have a floppy drive, or
cannot use both the CD-ROM and floppy drives at the same time, or your
GeoLocator license floppy disk has gone bad, send an email to
support@mapsolutions.com.
Please include your name and phone number, and the serial number and company name on the label of your
license floppy disk.
We will email a new serial number and instructions
for installation without the floppy. After installing GeoLocator,
when you go to use GeoLocator, you will be asked to register.
Follow the instructions for completing the internet registration.
QUESTION: My computer crashed. How do I
reinstall GeoLocator on a rebuilt or replacement computer?
If you subscribe to our new GeoLocator/OnLine,
first download the 30-day trial.
Start GeoLocator then follow the instructions to register.
If you purchased the older CD-ROM version of
GeoLocator, you must have both your GeoLocator CD-ROM and
either your license floppy disk or a Registration Certificate in order to reinstall GeoLocator.
- Insert your CD-ROM and follow the on-screen instructions.
- When asked for your Serial Number and Company
Name, enter the information exactly as it appears on your
License Floppy Disk or Registration Certificate.
- Your Single User License comes with a total of
2 installs. GeoLocator/Office is provided with 5 installs.
If you have exhausted your licensed number of installs you will
receive a message "Install count exceeded". However, you will be
able to install a 30-day spare license.
- If this occurs, you will be asked to register
when you start GeoLocator. Follow the instructions below for
Registering GeoLocator. Indicate that the
reason for your order is for a "Reinstallation of prior license". Replacements
for lost or damaged licenses are provide for no charge for up to 1
year after purchase.
QUESTION: How do I
register GeoLocator?
New copies of GeoLocator come with a fixed number
of pre-registered installs (2 installs for the Single User License, 5
installs for GeoLocator/Office). These initial installs do not
have to be registered.
However, if you:
- Have exhausted your initial installs and must
register a replacement copy, OR
- Have purchased additional counties or installs,
OR
- Wish to extend your WebLocator subscription,
You must follow the procedure below to print and
fax a registration request to Map Solutions. We will email your
activation codes and instructions.

- If you are asked to register, say "Yes".
Otherwise select Register from the Task Menu or from the Help Menu.
- The registration procedure is explained on the
next screen.
Follow the instructions for completing the registration form.
- Enter the order type (New, Update, etc) and click NEXT.
- Update your contact information.
Please make sure that your phone, fax, and email address are correct
and click OK.
- Say YES to "Register via Internet?"

QUESTION: Message "Error 105" after selecting a county to install?
Our product divides the United States at the
Mississippi River. Each CD-ROM covers half of the U.S. with some
overlap. You
have received a GeoLocator CD-ROM which does not cover your region.
Please request the GeoLocator which covers your region of the United
States. Be sure to specify which CD-ROM you received (East or
West) and which counties you are needing. Click here to

QUESTION: Message "Error 113"
while the installation progress status bar is being
displayed?
This error may have one of two causes:
- The CD-ROM may be dirty or damaged. Try
"huffing" on the polished bottom surface of the CD-ROM and rubbing in
a circular motion with a soft cotton cloth or lens cleaning cloth.
Then repeat your installation. If the error persists, contact
Map Solutions Customer Support and request a replacement CD-ROM.

- You have a laptop computer that requires you to
swap floppy and CD-ROM drives and you cannot have both in at the same
time. Contact Map Solutions Customer Support and request a "No
floppy laptop license" which allows you to install GeoLocator without

QUESTION: Message "Error 115"
while the installation progress status bar is being
displayed?
A file that is being updated is in use.
Make sure that GeoLocator is closed. If you are on a network, make
sure that all users have closed GeoLocator. If the error persists,
reboot your computer or (on a network) reboot your server.
QUESTION: Message "Invalid Registration Number"?
Answer #1: You are an existing user and are entering
an old serial number.
You must enter the serial number on
your CD-ROM sleeve or
License Floppy disk.
Answer #2: You are not entering the dashes or have otherwise mis-typed the serial number.
It will always have the form: 17-123456-ABCD. If the AAAA portion
contains a "0", it is a ZERO and not an "O".
QUESTION: Message "You are attempting to overwrite a licensed copy of
GeoLocator with an evaluation
version"?
You cannot install GeoLocator over prior
versions. See "Can I install GeoLocator
over a prior version?" above.
QUESTION: Message "Your License Disk does not
match the version on your CD-ROM" when installing on Windows NT/2000/XP?
GeoLocator Version 5.0 Setup program is incompatible with Windows NT.
Your must update to GeoLocator Version 6 or higher.

QUESTION: How do I uninstall
GeoLocator? GeoLocator can be uninstalled
in one of three ways:
- Select START | PROGRAMS | MAP SOLUTIONS |
UNINSTALL GEOLOCATOR, or
- Select START | SETTINGS | CONTROL PANEL |
ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS.
Click on Map Solutions GeoLocator and select Remove, or
- Determine where GeoLocator is installed:
Click START | RUN. Then Type WINMAPS.INI and click OK.
The APPDIR variable shows the path to the GeoLocator folder.
Use Windows Explorer to locate and delete that folder.
