GeoLocator/Office Installation

How do I install GeoLocator/Office on my Network?
Message "Install Count Exceeded" - Network Version?
How do I configure a new workstation to access an existing copy of GeoLocator on our server?

QUESTION:  How do I install GeoLocator/Office on my Network?

GeoLocator/Office can either be installed on your network server to support any number of workstation up to 5 concurrent users at a time, OR, you can install GeoLocator on up to 5 stand-alone computers.  If you are installing stand-alone licenses see the instructions for Single User Installation.

GeoLocator/Office is installed on a network in two steps:  First, install one copy on the server (or the "main" computer in a peer-to-peer network), then, Second, enable GeoLocator access on each workstation.

IMPORTANT:  If you have previously installed the Single User version onto the C: drive of a workstation which will be accessing the copy of GeoLocator on your server, you must first uninstall the Single User version from the workstation.

Server Installation

  1. Install GeoLocator to your server from a workstation.
Select the first workstation to be installed if you are installing to a server, or select the "main" computer in a peer-to-peer network, and download and start the GeoLocator/OnLine 30-day trial installation.

  2. Specify which folder to use on your server.
When asked where to install GeoLocator, use the Browse button to change the destination to X:\Winmaps where X is a drive letter which has been mapped to your server.  For example, if your workstation sees the server as drive F, then the destination folder would be F:\Winmaps.  Although you can change the default folder name WINMAPS, it is less confusing for support staff, and easier to apply updates if you accept the default folder name.

  3. When asked which Setup Type to use, select "Server".  This will install the program and county maps to the server and will also setup the first workstation.

Workstation Installation

  1. Download and start the GeoLocator/OnLine UPDATE on the next workstation.

  2. Specify which folder to use on your Server.  On each workstation, specify the same folder on the Server as entered above.  For example, if your workstation sees the server as drive F, then the destination folder would be F:\Winmaps.

  3. If asked which Setup Type to use, select "Workstation".  This will setup the local files on each Workstation necessary to access the GeoLocator license installed on your server.

  4. Repeat this workstation setup on each workstation.
