Printing Maps

Can I change the phone number and company name on the map?
How do I print landscape formatted maps?
Message "Not enough memory" when printing maps?
Message "Printer Overrun" displayed on printer?

QUESTION:  Memory "Not enough memory" when printing maps?

ANSWER:  There are three possible causes:

(a) The printer may need more memory. GeoLocator needs at least 2 Mb of printer memory to print a full size letter size map, 3 Mb for legal size.

(b) The memory setting for the printer device driver does not match the actual amout of printer memory. Correct the memory setting on the Device Options Tab of the printer's property sheet.  Select Settings | Printers from the Windows Start button, then right-click on your printer and select Properties.

(c) The printer device driver is being too conservative in managing the printer's memory.  Set the printer memory tracking option on the Device Options Tab to "Aggressive".  If this does not correct the problem, increase the memory setting to be greater than the actual amount of memory by about 30%.

QUESTION:  Message "Printer Overrun" message from printer?

ANSWER:  Printer driver has not allocated enough memory for images.

Workaround: On HPIII and earlier printers, set Page Protect mode from the printer's front panel:

a) Take printer offline.
b) Press and HOLD Menu button for at least 6 seconds until you see "AUTO CONT=OFF".
c) Press Menu several more times until you see "PAGEPROTECT".
d) Press "+" key until "LTR" or "LGL" is set, depending upon your default paper size.
e) Press the Enter button to configure the printer.

On other printers, make sure that the Page Protection option is set on the Device Options tab of the printer's property sheet. Select Settings | Printers from the Windows Start button, then right-click on your printer and select Properties.  Also, make sure that the driver memory setting matches the amount of memory in your printer.

QUESTION:  Can I change the phone number and company name on the map?

ANSWER:  Change the phone number from the Page Layout menu.  Select User Legend | Phone Number.  Correct the phone number and select OK.

Please Note:  The name that prints on the map legend is your Registered Username and can only be changed by printing out an order form from each affected stand-alone computer (Help | Register | Complete Form).  On network installations, you need only print out the form from one workstation only.  Fax the form to our fax number below.  Be sure to indicate on the Fax that you are requesting a name change.

QUESTION:  How do I print landscape formatted maps?

ANSWER:  Change GeoLocator's Page Layout as follows:

1. Click FILE | PAGE LAYOUT | EDIT. Set the margins as follows to print a landscape formatted map with no header or legend.

TOP: 0.5
BOTTOM: 0.5
LEFT: 0.5
RIGHT: 0.5
PAPER WIDTH: 14.0
PAPER HEIGHT: 8.5
Click OK to set the margins.

2. Click FILE | PAGE LAYOUT and make sure that Print Legend is
NOT checked (if it is, click on it to turn it off).

3. Click FILE | PAGE LAYOUT and make sure that Print Header
is NOT checked.

4. Click FILE | PRINT | SETUP | LANDSCAPE | OK | OK to print your
landscape map.

If you want a header on the map, set the TOP margin to 1.85 and set FILE | PAGE LAYOUT | Print Header to checked.  If you want a legend printed under the map, set the bottom margin to 2.0 inches and set FILE | PAGE LAYOUT | Print Legend to checked.
