MapDirector is a toolkit which gives the user or host application scripted control over the look, feel, and functions of GeoLocator's runtime mapping and printing engines. The toolkit allows the seamless integration of a client application with the GeoLocator runtime module acting as map server.

For example, a client application can issue commands which will import an address file, and "pop-up" a map window centered around the selected properties, or which will export a map image file of the same view.

Geographic Queries

Several MapDirector commands have been added which enable the map to be used to select a sub-set of records from the current property layer and then save them to another map data file. Records can be selected which lie within either a rectangle or an arbitrary and user defined boundary, called a "Farm".

Custom Help Menu

A new MapDirector command, HelpTopic, can be used to trigger the display of help on a specific topic. In conjunction with the new AddMenu command, you can use the HelpTopic command to define new menu items which add customized help to the Help menu

Custom Context Sensitive Help

The help button on each form can be customized by defining the help topic and file to reference when the button is pressed.

Custom Menus

Two new MapDirector commands have been added which allow you to add and delete menu items from the GeoLocator menu bar. See the descriptions of AddMenu and DeleteMenu.

File Management

Two new commands allow you to delete (DeleteFile), and create (CreateFile) files from within a MapDirector command file.

DDE Interface

MapDirector commands can now be executed via a DDE link. See the Communication topic in the MapDirector Reference Manual. A sample C language DDE Client application is provided on the Toolkit Reference disk in the CLIENT directory.

How do I initiate a DDE link to GeoLocator from MS Access 2000?

Command Line Options

The -h option starts GeoLocator as a hidden window which can later be un-hidden using MapDirector commands executed over a DDE link or from within a background command file. The -l option now logs Batch Retrieve and Section Retrieval transactions.

Importing dBase Files

dBase address files can be imported by defining an import format in a Service Definition file which tells GeoLocator which fields from the dBase file to use.
